Give Me 5

Give Me Five future events you are currently looking forward to and/or planning or attending.
  1. Family Reunion - we do this every year, but this year it will be our only form of vacation and our youngest and his girlfriend are flying out too - 1st time in 5 years - we're really looking forward to this.
  2. Fishing Season - hubby will be out with the guys A LOT and I'll be able to get some things (quilting, stained glass, etc... fun stuff) done without the 'retired' guy under foot.
  3. Summer - I have 300+ feet to plant a hedge around. I'm thinking of using lilacs (yellow, purple and pink) to give us some great smelling, fast growing, sturdy privacy.
  4. New 'niece' or 'nephew' - we don't know which yet, but are soooooooooo excited.
  5. Rummage Sale - My friend and I are having a big blow out the end of June. We've both been cleaning our closets, drawers, etc... trying to lighten our loads. I've been filling up boxes and trekking them out to the barn which makes it easier to keep picking things out to add to the pile. I LOVE spring cleaning!
  6. Christmas - First time in out new "old" house (If you're just tuning in, this will explain) and it should be done by then.

Give Me 5 Monday

Today's theme is five ways you like to de-stress, relax, wind down or kick back. All four of these have different meanings for me. De-stress means I was recently manic and need to calm down. Relax means having friends over or going out with friends, wind down means I've been working non-stop and kick back means there's probably a spring or summer breeze. So in no order of preference:
  • A cool drink, a wave lapping at my feet and a good book in hand as I sit in the sand under an umbrella.
  • A hot chocolate with lots of tiny marshmallows, my feet curled under me with my favorite cozy blanket, a fire popping and a good book.
  • Dinner and drinks at a comfortable restaurant with friends laughing at silly stories or bad jokes.
  • Picnicking with family and watching the children laugh and play.
  • quilting or crafting.

Give Me 5 Monday

This weeks topic: 5 favorite things to do in your favorite season of the year...

This is a tough one for me because I can come up with 5 for EVERY season. I don't really have a 'favorite' season. So I'm going to try the whole year and see where this goes.

Winter
  1. making Snow Angels
  2. having a Snowball Fight that makes you laugh till you fall over
  3. country road drives to see all the Christmas Decorations and frozen lakes with ice fishermen
  4. watching the snow fall outside my window while I drink hot chocolate with lots of little marshmallows
  5. bundling up with scarves and gloves to take a brisk walk through the woods
Spring
  1. Watching the spring bulbs that I planted in the fall peek out through the last remnants of snow and start to grown and flourish in the warmer weather
  2. Playing catch with the dogs in the new spring grass
  3. Spring Cleaning
  4. rummage and garage sales are the best in the spring. All those people who were tired of being cooped up did all their cleaning out and I find the best 'neat' stuff in the spring
  5. Family Reunion Picnic Weekend - my husbands family has one Mother's Day Weekend every year and we ALL (at least 85-90 show up every year) look forward to it
Summer
  1. Filling the 'pool' with water for the dogs to splash in.
  2. Picnics along the river or lake with cold fried chicken and watermelon.
  3. Weekend trips to anywhere.
  4. Reading in the hammock while the smells of BBQ are wafting my way.
  5. Dinner on the porch during a lightning storm.
Fall
  1. Autumn leaves and the air turning crisp.
  2. Country road drives to see all the leaves changing color and blanketing the forest floor here in the north woods.
  3. Making Soups and stews as the weather turns cooler.
  4. Making fires to warm the house.
  5. Quilting while the first snow falls.

Give Me 5 Monday

Give Me Five positive traits or accomplishments you admired in a person or persons that you aren't getting along with or have hurt or offended you in the past.

Becca wrote, "Over the past few years, I have gone through some personal changes as I've grown closer in my walk with the Lord. In that time, there have been more than a couple of friends, and I mean long time-there-by-your-side kind of friends, who I have begun to clash with. Some have gone away from me completely and others I have attempted to reconcile with on some level.

Part of my growth has been to see how I really was to other people...to discover the err of my ways, not just what other people do to me. As it turns out, it's a two way street and I was just as guilty as they were!!! So, something I have tried to do when looking back and evaluating things, is to try and remember positive things about them and not just the bad things at the end of the friendship.

I really have gained much healing through this process and thinking positively about people who have hurt us is a great step in a Godly direction. Everyone sins against God, sometimes we get hurt in the process too. Adding positive thoughts to the equation can help the healing process and add closure to the situation even if it's only on our end."

Based on where she began, I will follow:

1) *Terry ~ I admire her for sticking to her convictions on religion. This though is what put the wedge between us in the first place. She's catholic, I was, but am now Presbyterian. My refusal to return to the catholic church was a constant source of ambiguity between us. She has 'moved' on to other friendships because I wouldn't change.
2) *
Ann ~
I admire her for her ability to always see the world through rose colored glasses. This though is what put the wedge between us in the first place. She sees the world one way and has no room for the real world in her life. At the slightest hint of conflict, she closes the door and locks it forever.
3) *
John ~
I admire him for his ability to charm others into believing he is a nice guy that really deserves the best. This was meant to be sarcastic! Since I don't have all day to write this post, the best analogy I can give you for him is Nicolae Carpathia from the Left Behind series of books by Jerry Jenkins and Tim Lahaye.
4) *Alan ~
I admire him for his ability to believe that his religion is the only true religion, which makes him and his better than ALL others. This too was meant to be sarcastic. And in order not to slight his religion I can explain no more.
5) *W.P. ~
I admire her for her ability to believe that the ends do ALWAYS justify the means no matter WHO is sacrificed in the process. All I can say here is that it is military related and the term politically correct doesn't apply to her or begin to explain how I feel towards her.

*Names changed to protect their identities.

Now anyone that knows me knows that I AM a Glass half full girl and I even believe in refills. I will almost always overlook other's indiscretions if they are an occasional thing, but not when it becomes the rule instead of the exception. My husband once told me (after a couple of drinks) that I can be a real witch sometimes because I always seem to find the positive in all things. He said that isn't normal. He wanted to know when I would be joining the real world. So that gives you some idea how pissed off I have to become to feel this way.

So, if my post sounds a tad sarcastic or even cynical, realize that these people were given way too much time to walk all over me before I saw their 'positive' traits for what they were, selfish and the inability to cope in the real world with tolerance for others.

Becca is right that it is a two way street, but in some cases and on some levels, compromise can only meet in the middle if that other person also chooses to walk out into that street. These 5 people drew their lines in the sand, or in their cases painted them on the sidewalk and they were clearly on their side of the street with no hint of even stepping off the curb.

This probably wasn't exactly what Becca had in mind for today's meme, but it is what I needed to say and like my dad always taught me, start your negative with a positive so they'll listen.

~Give Me 5 Monday~VACATION DESTINATIONS~ 1st Post~

HOSTED BY BECCA'S BUZZ
Five Vacation Destinations

3 I've been to and 2 I can't wait to visit
It was hard to narrow it down to just 5!
1) Alaska ~ 2 week cruise with lots of side excursions - this trip was WONDERFUL!
2) New York City ~ I spent a week here and barely saw anything besides the Statue of Liberty and The Metropolitan Museum of Art so I need to go back and then detour to Washington DC
3) Lake Wallenpaupak Pennsylvania ~ I spent a week here completely relaxed and visiting Amish towns during the day. I think this is where I learned to love quilting.
4) Vancouver ~ I was actually here for 4 hours on a cruise stop, but it hardly counts.

5) Nova Scotia ~ There is a fantastic book and it was made into a super movie twice! It was made by PBS the second time, the first movie was an old black and white. I fell in love with Nova Scotia when I saw Megan Follows as Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables.
